Lullfitz Drive, Broome Quality Tourism Retreat

The purpose of the Scheme Amendment Planning Report was to justify the proposed tourism retreat within the planning and environmental context and to:

  • describe the characteristics of the site, proposed development;
  • respond to the requirements of the Local Planning Scheme No. 6; and
  • demonstrate support for the proposal and illustrate its benefits and merits.

The site, secluded by its natural situation and setting with a backdrop of Bilingurr, promotes development of a high quality tourism retreat. The proposed accommodation units are sited amongst clusters of existing vegetation to take advantage of the secluded ambiance of the environment and to avoid site clearing.

Because of sensitivities associated with the site and situation, urbanplan addressed nearby Aboriginal cultural matters, remnant sub-tropical vegetation making specific reference to the Yawuru Coastal Management Plan, soil drainage, stormwater flooding, bushfire rating and the requirements to satisfy the high quality tourism market.
